Verb in English Grammar

Verb হলো sentence-এর প্রাণ। কোনো কাজ, অবস্থা, অভ্যাস, ঘটনা বা অনুভূতি বোঝাতে verb ব্যবহার করা হয়। English sentence বুঝতে এবং tense শিখতে verb খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এই lesson-এ verb meaning, types, forms, examples, common mistakes এবং practice শিখবেন।

Verb কী?

A verb is a word that shows action, state, possession or occurrence.

Previous Lesson-এর সাথে Connection

Lesson #6-এ আপনি Pronoun শিখেছেন। Pronoun sentence-এ subject বা object হতে পারে। এখন Verb শিখলে বুঝবেন subject কী কাজ করছে বা subject-এর অবস্থা কী।

Verb ছাড়া বেশিরভাগ English sentence complete হয় না। Verb sentence-এর action বা state প্রকাশ করে।

I eat rice.
She is happy.
They play football.
He has a book.

উপরের sentence-গুলোতে eat, is, play, has — এগুলো verb.

Auxiliary Verb	Helps main verb	am, is, are, has, do	She is reading.
Modal Verb	Shows ability, advice, permission	can, should, must	You should study.
Transitive Verb	Needs object	eat, write, buy	I eat rice.
Intransitive Verb	Does not need object	sleep, fly, arrive	Birds fly.
Linking Verb	Connects subject and complement	is, seem, become	He became tired.

Important Rules

Verb Forms: V1, V2, V3, V-ing and s/es

Tense শেখার আগে verb forms জানা খুব জরুরি।

V1 / Base Form

Verb-এর basic form হলো V1. Modal verb, do/does/did এবং infinitive-এর পরে সাধারণত V1 বসে।

go, eat, read, write, play
Example: I can speak English.

V2 / Past Form

Past simple tense-এ V2 ব্যবহার করা হয়।

go → went, eat → ate, play → played
Example: I went to school yesterday.

V3 / Past Participle

Perfect tense এবং passive voice-এ V3 ব্যবহার করা হয়।

go → gone, eat → eaten, write → written
Example: I have finished my work.

V-ing / Present Participle

Continuous tense এবং gerund হিসেবে V-ing ব্যবহার হয়।

go → going, eat → eating, run → running
Example: She is reading a book.

s/es Form

Simple present tense-এ he/she/it/singular subject-এর সাথে verb+s/es হয়।

go → goes, read → reads, watch → watches
Example: He goes to school.

Common Mistakes

Bengali Learnersদের Common Verb Mistakes

Verb form এবং helping verb ভুল হলে sentence ভুল হয়ে যায়।

He go to school. ❌

He goes to school. ✅

He/she/it/singular subject-এর সাথে simple present tense-এ verb+s/es হয়।

I did not went there. ❌

I did not go there. ✅

Did not-এর পরে base verb/V1 বসে।

She can sings well. ❌

She can sing well. ✅

Modal verb-এর পরে V1/base form বসে।

I am agree with you. ❌

I agree with you. ✅

Agree নিজেই main verb, তাই am দরকার নেই।
