Adverb in English Grammar

Adverb কী?

An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

Previous Lesson-এর সাথে Connection

Lesson #8-এ আপনি Adjective শিখেছেন। Adjective noun বা pronoun describe করে। কিন্তু Adverb সাধারণত verb, adjective বা another adverb describe করে। তাই adjective এবং adverb-এর difference clear করা খুব জরুরি।

Adverb sentence-এ extra detail যোগ করে। যেমন, “He runs” বললে শুধু action বোঝা যায়। কিন্তু “He runs quickly” বললে বোঝা যায় সে কীভাবে দৌড়ায়। এখানে quickly adverb.

He runs quickly.
She is very happy.
I will come tomorrow.
They study regularly.

উপরের sentence-গুলোতে quickly, very, tomorrow, regularly — এগুলো adverb.

Adverb Position and Adjective vs Adverb

Adverb কোথায় বসে এবং adjective-এর সাথে difference কী তা শিখুন।

Adverb After Verb

Adverb of manner সাধারণত verb-এর পরে বসে।

He speaks clearly. She sings beautifully. They work carefully.

Adverb Before Adjective

Adverb adjective-এর আগে বসে adjective-এর degree বোঝাতে পারে।

very good, too difficult, quite easy, extremely important

Frequency Adverb Position

Frequency adverb সাধারণত main verb-এর আগে বসে, কিন্তু be verb-এর পরে বসে।

I always study English. She is always polite.

Adjective vs Adverb

Adjective noun/pronoun describe করে। Adverb verb/adjective/adverb describe করে।

She is beautiful. = adjective
She sings beautifully. = adverb

-ly Adverbs

অনেক adverb adjective-এর শেষে -ly যোগ করে তৈরি হয়। তবে সব -ly word adverb নয়।

quick → quickly, careful → carefully, beautiful → beautifully
But: friendly is usually an adjective.

Bengali Learnersদের Common Adverb Mistakes

Adjective এবং adverb confuse করলে sentence ভুল বা unnatural হয়ে যায়।

He speaks English good. ❌

He speaks English well. ✅

Speak একটি verb, তাই verb describe করতে adverb লাগে: well.

She sings beautiful. ❌

She sings beautifully. ✅

Sing verb describe করতে adverb beautifully ব্যবহার হবে।

I always am busy. ❌

I am always busy. ✅

Be verb-এর পরে frequency adverb বসে।

He works hardly. ❌

He works hard. ✅

Hard adverb হিসেবেও hard থাকে। Hardly মানে almost not.
