Degree of Comparison কী?
Degree of Comparison হলো adjective বা adverb-এর এমন form, যার মাধ্যমে দুই বা তার বেশি ব্যক্তি, বস্তু, স্থান বা বিষয়ের মধ্যে তুলনা করা হয়।
Rahim is tall.
Karim is taller than Rahim.
Hasan is the tallest boy in the class.

Types of Degree of Comparison
English Grammar-এ Degree of Comparison সাধারণত তিন প্রকার।
1. Positive Degree
কোনো তুলনা না করে শুধু quality বোঝালে Positive Degree হয়।
সে লম্বা।
2. Comparative Degree
দুই ব্যক্তি বা দুই জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা করলে Comparative Degree হয়।
সে আমার চেয়ে লম্বা।
3. Superlative Degree
তিন বা তার বেশি ব্যক্তি বা জিনিসের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি quality বোঝালে Superlative Degree হয়।
সে সবচেয়ে লম্বা ছেলে।

Adjectives Ending in Consonant + y
adjective যদি consonant + y দিয়ে শেষ হয়, তাহলে y বাদ দিয়ে ier এবং iest যোগ হয়।

Short Adjectives Ending in CVC
কিছু short adjective consonant + vowel + consonant pattern-এ শেষ হলে শেষ consonant double হয়ে er বা est যোগ হয়।

আজ গতকালের চেয়ে বেশি গরম।
Long Adjectives: More এবং Most
বড় adjective বা long adjective-এর comparative করতে more এবং superlative করতে most ব্যবহার করা হয়।

Negative Comparison with not as…as
দুইজন বা দুইটি জিনিসের quality সমান নয় বোঝাতে not as…as ব্যবহার করা হয়।
রহিম করিমের মতো লম্বা নয়।
এই প্রশ্নটি ওই প্রশ্নের মতো কঠিন নয়।
Rahim is not as tall as Karim.

Comparative Degree with than
দুইজন বা দুইটি জিনিসের মধ্যে তুলনা করলে comparative degree-এর পরে সাধারণত than বসে।

Superlative Degree with the
Superlative degree-এর আগে সাধারণত the বসে, কারণ এটি কোনো group-এর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি quality বোঝায়।
