English Grammar-এ কিছু verb কখনো noun-এর মতো কাজ করে। এই জায়গায় Gerund এবং Infinitive খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।
Gerund
Verb-এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়ে যখন noun-এর মতো কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Gerund বলে।
Swimming is good exercise.
সাঁতার কাটা ভালো ব্যায়াম।
Infinitive
To + base verb form-কে Infinitive বলে। এটি purpose, plan, intention বা action বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I want to learn English.
আমি ইংরেজি শিখতে চাই।
Gerund = Verb + ing
Infinitive = To + base verb
Gerund-এর Structure
Gerund দেখতে verb + ing-এর মতো, কিন্তু sentence-এ এটি noun-এর কাজ করে।
write → writing
play → playing
swim → swimming
learn → learning
সব verb + ing gerund নয়। কখনো verb + ing continuous tense-এ main verb হিসেবেও ব্যবহার হয়।
Gerund: Reading is useful. এখানে reading noun-এর মতো কাজ করছে।
Continuous Verb: I am reading. এখানে reading action বোঝাচ্ছে।
Infinitive-এর Structure
Infinitive সাধারণত to + base verb form-এ ব্যবহৃত হয়।

আমার ইংরেজি উন্নত করা প্রয়োজন।
Infinitive-এর base verb-এর সাথে s/es, ing বা past form বসে না।

Gerund as Subject
Gerund sentence-এর subject হিসেবে বসতে পারে। বাংলায় এর অর্থ সাধারণত “করা”, “খাওয়া”, “পড়া”, “শেখা” ইত্যাদি হয়।
পড়া তোমার জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি করে।
ইংরেজি শেখা সময় নেয়।

Gerund as Object
Gerund অনেক সময় verb-এর object হিসেবে বসে।

Gerund after Preposition
Preposition-এর পরে verb ব্যবহার করলে সাধারণত gerund বা verb + ing form বসে।

সে একটি প্রশ্ন করতে আমাকে ফোন করেছিল।
Infinitive after Adjective
Adjective-এর পরে infinitive ব্যবহার করা যায়।
তোমাকে সাহায্য করতে পেরে আমি খুশি।
ধাপে ধাপে English শেখা সহজ।
সে class শুরু করতে প্রস্তুত।

কিছু verb-এর পরে সাধারণত infinitive বা to + verb বসে।
