Conjunction in English Grammar

Conjunction কী?
A conjunction is a word that connects words, phrases, clauses, or sentences.

Lesson #11-এ আপনি Preposition শিখেছেন। Preposition noun বা pronoun-এর সাথে relation দেখায়। Conjunction words, phrases বা clauses connect করে। তাই connected sentence, compound sentence এবং complex sentence বুঝতে conjunction খুব important.
Conjunction ছাড়া English sentence অনেক সময় ছোট ছোট আলাদা sentence হয়ে যায়। Conjunction ব্যবহার করলে আমরা দুইটি idea একসাথে naturally বলতে পারি।

I stayed home because I was sick.
You can take tea or coffee.

Common Conjunction Rules
Conjunction ব্যবহার করার সময় meaning এবং sentence structure দুটোই বুঝতে হয়।
And
And similar ideas, addition বা extra information যোগ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
She is smart and hardworking.
He opened the book and started reading.
But
But contrast বা opposite idea দেখাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I wanted to go, but I was busy.
The question is difficult but important.
Or
Or choice, option বা alternative বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Study hard, or you may fail.

Because
Because reason বা cause বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
She was happy because she passed the exam.
Although
Although contrast দেখায়, কিন্তু but-এর মতো একই structure নয়। সাধারণত although এবং but একসাথে একই clause pair-এ ব্যবহার করা উচিত নয়।
He was tired, but he continued working. ✅
Although he was tired, but he continued working. ❌
Either…Or / Neither…Nor
Either…or দুইটির মধ্যে একটি choice বোঝায়। Neither…nor দুইটির কোনোটিই না বোঝায়।
Neither Rahim nor Karim came to class.
She is both smart and kind.

Speaking এবং writing-এ এই conjunctions বারবার ব্যবহার হয়।

Conjunction ভুলভাবে ব্যবহার করলে sentence unnatural বা grammatically wrong হয়।
Although he was tired, but he studied. ❌

Although এবং but একই contrast pair-এ একসাথে ব্যবহার করা উচিত নয়।
Because I was sick. ❌
I stayed home because I was sick. ✅
Because clause সাধারণত main clause-এর সাথে ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
Neither Rahim or Karim came. ❌
Neither Rahim nor Karim came. ✅
Neither-এর pair হলো nor.
Either you study nor you fail. ❌
Either you study or you fail. ✅
Either-এর pair হলো or.

Same type positive ideas যোগ করতে and ব্যবহার হয়।
