Noun কী?

Noun is the name of a person, place, thing, animal, idea or quality.

Previous Lesson-এর সাথে Connection

Lesson #4-এ আপনি Parts of Speech শিখেছেন। Parts of Speech-এর প্রথম এবং সবচেয়ে basic topic হলো Noun. তাই এখন noun ভালোভাবে শেখা জরুরি।

সহজভাবে, noun হলো কোনো কিছুর নাম। আমরা মানুষ, জায়গা, জিনিস, প্রাণী, অনুভূতি, গুণ বা ধারণার নাম বলতে noun ব্যবহার করি।

Examples: Rahim, Dhaka, school, book, cat, honesty, happiness, team

Sentence example: Rahim reads a book in Dhaka. এখানে Rahim, book এবং Dhaka — তিনটিই noun.

Material Noun	Name of material/substance	gold, water, wood	Gold is expensive.
Abstract Noun	Idea, quality or feeling	honesty, love, courage	Honesty is important.
Countable Noun	Can be counted	pen, apple, student	I have three pens.
Uncountable Noun	Cannot be counted normally	water, rice, advice	I need some water.
Compound Noun	Made of two or more words	classroom, bus stop	She is in the classroom.

Important Rules

Noun-এর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Grammar Rules

Singular and Plural Noun

Singular noun এক ব্যক্তি/বস্তু বোঝায়। Plural noun একাধিক ব্যক্তি/বস্তু বোঝায়।

book → books, student → students, child → children, man → men

Gender of Noun

Noun gender চার ধরনের হতে পারে: masculine, feminine, common এবং neuter.

boy = masculine, girl = feminine, teacher = common, table = neuter

Countable Noun

যেসব noun গণনা করা যায়, সেগুলো countable noun.

one book, two apples, five students, many pens

Uncountable Noun

যেসব noun সাধারণত সরাসরি গণনা করা যায় না, সেগুলো uncountable noun.

water, rice, sugar, advice, information

Possessive Noun

কোনো কিছুর মালিকানা বোঝাতে possessive noun ব্যবহার হয়। সাধারণত apostrophe + s ব্যবহার করা হয়।

Rahim’s book, Mina’s bag, the teacher’s table

Noun countable না uncountable, singular না plural — এগুলো না বুঝলে sentence ভুল হয়।

I need an advice. ❌

I need some advice. ✅

Advice uncountable noun, তাই an advice বলা যায় না।

I have two informations. ❌

I have two pieces of information. ✅

Information uncountable noun.

She has many furnitures. ❌

She has much furniture. ✅

Furniture uncountable noun.

Rahim book is new. ❌

Rahim’s book is new. ✅

Possession বোঝাতে apostrophe + s দরকার।
