Tense Introduction in English Grammar

Tense কী?
Tense is the form of a verb that shows the time and nature of an action or state.

Lesson #14-এ আপনি Modal Verbs শিখেছেন। Modal verb-এর পরে V1 বসে। Tense শেখার সময় verb form আরও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হয়ে যায়, কারণ tense অনুযায়ী verb-এর form, helping verb এবং sentence structure বদলে যায়।
Tense শুধু time বোঝায় না; tense action-এর condition-ও বোঝায়। কাজটি সাধারণভাবে হয়, এখন চলছে, ইতিমধ্যে শেষ হয়েছে, নাকি কোনো সময় ধরে চলছে—এসব tense দিয়ে বোঝানো যায়।
I studied English. = Past action
I will study English. = Future action
I am studying English. = Action happening now
তাই tense শেখার মূল কাজ হলো: time + verb form + sentence structure বুঝে সঠিক sentence তৈরি করা।

Simple Formula
3 main times × 4 forms = 12 common tenses. Present, Past, Future প্রতিটির Simple, Continuous, Perfect এবং Perfect Continuous form আছে।
Simple, Continuous, Perfect, Perfect Continuous
Tense-এর চারটি form বুঝলে 12 tense শেখা অনেক সহজ হয়।
Simple Tense
Simple tense habit, fact, completed action বা future action বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Past Simple: I studied English.
Future Simple: I will study English.
Continuous Tense
Continuous tense কোনো action চলমান ছিল/আছে/থাকবে বোঝায়। Structure-এ সাধারণত be verb + V-ing থাকে।
Past Continuous: I was studying.
Future Continuous: I will be studying.
Perfect Tense
Perfect tense কোনো action complete হয়েছে বা একটি সময়ের আগে শেষ হয়েছে বোঝায়। Structure-এ সাধারণত have/has/had/will have + V3 থাকে।
Past Perfect: I had finished.
Future Perfect: I will have finished.
Perfect Continuous Tense
Perfect Continuous tense কোনো action নির্দিষ্ট সময় ধরে চলছে/চলছিল/চলবে বোঝায়।
Past Perfect Continuous: I had been studying for two hours.
Future Perfect Continuous: I will have been studying for two hours.
Common Signal Words
Signal words tense identify করতে সাহায্য করে, তবে শুধু signal word দেখে tense নির্বাচন করা সবসময় safe নয়। Context বুঝতে হবে।
Past Simple: yesterday, last night, ago
Present Perfect: already, just, yet, since, for
Future: tomorrow, next week, soon

Bengali Learnersদের Common Tense Mistakes
Tense ভুল হলে sentence-এর time এবং meaning দুটোই confusing হয়ে যায়।

Present simple tense-এ he/she/it-এর সাথে verb+s/es হয়।
I am go to school now. ❌
I am going to school now. ✅
Continuous tense-এ be verb + V-ing লাগে।
I have finish my work. ❌
I have finished my work. ✅
Perfect tense-এ have/has + V3 লাগে।
I did not went there. ❌
I did not go there. ✅
Did not-এর পরে V1/base verb বসে।
She will goes tomorrow. ❌
She will go tomorrow. ✅
Will-এর পরে V1 বসে, verb+s/es নয়।
I am living here since 2020. ❌
I have been living here since 2020. ✅
Since/for দিয়ে duration বোঝালে present perfect continuous ব্যবহার হতে পারে।
