Why Bengali Learners Make Grammar Mistakes

Bengali learners English grammar mistake করে mainly কারণ Bangla sentence structure এবং English sentence structure আলাদা। Bangla-তে অনেক সময় auxiliary verb, article, preposition বা tense marker English-এর মতো স্পষ্টভাবে ব্যবহার হয় না। তাই English sentence বানাতে গিয়ে Bangla থেকে direct translation করলে ভুল হয়।

Simple Idea:
Bangla থেকে word-by-word translation না করে English structure অনুযায়ী sentence বানাতে হবে।

Bangla Word Order Influence

Bangla structure English-এ direct apply করলে sentence awkward হয়।

Article Problem

Bangla-তে a, an, the নেই, তাই learners article ভুল করে।

Preposition Problem

in, on, at, to, for, with এগুলো Bangla meaning দেখে ব্যবহার করলে mistake হয়।

Tense Confusion

সময়, action এবং verb form ঠিক না মিললে tense mistake হয়।

Mistake 1: Subject Verb Agreement ভুল করা

Subject singular হলে present simple tense-এ verb-এর সাথে সাধারণত s/es যোগ হয়। Subject plural হলে verb base form থাকে।

❌ Wrong: He go to school every day.

✅ Correct: He goes to school every day.

❌ Wrong: They goes to school every day.

✅ Correct: They go to school every day.

Fix Formula:
He / She / It / Singular noun + verb+s/es
I / You / We / They / Plural noun + base verb

Mistake 2: Does/Did-এর পরে ভুল Verb Form ব্যবহার

Does বা did ব্যবহার করলে main verb base form হয়। Bengali learners অনেক সময় does-এর পরে verb+s এবং did-এর পরে past verb ব্যবহার করে।

❌ Wrong: Does he likes tea?

✅ Correct: Does he like tea?

❌ Wrong: Did you went there?

✅ Correct: Did you go there?

Fix Formula:
Does + subject + base verb?
Did + subject + base verb?

Remember:
Does এবং did already tense দেখাচ্ছে। তাই main verb আবার tense দেখাবে না।

Mistake 3: Article A, An, The ভুল ব্যবহার

Bangla-তে article নেই, তাই Bengali learners English-এ a, an, the বাদ দেয় বা ভুল জায়গায় ব্যবহার করে।

❌ Wrong: I am student.

✅ Correct: I am a student.

❌ Wrong: She is an university student.

✅ Correct: She is a university student.

❌ Wrong: Sun rises in east.

✅ Correct: The sun rises in the east.

Quick Rule:
a = consonant sound: a book, a university
an = vowel sound: an apple, an hour
the = specific/unique thing: the sun, the moon, the book I bought

Mistake 4: Preposition ভুল করা

Preposition word-by-word translate করলে mistake হয়। Preposition অনেক সময় fixed expression হিসেবে শিখতে হয়।

Mistake 5: Tense ভুল করা

Tense mistake হলে sentence-এর time meaning ভুল হয়ে যায়। Bengali learners অনেক সময় present, past এবং perfect tense confuse করে।

❌ Wrong: I am living here since 2020.

✅ Correct: I have been living here since 2020.

❌ Wrong: I have seen him yesterday.

✅ Correct: I saw him yesterday.

Important Rule:
since/for + continuing action → Present Perfect Continuous
yesterday/last night/ago → Past Simple

Mistake 6: Word Order ভুল করা

Bangla sentence order English থেকে আলাদা। তাই direct Bangla translation করলে word order mistake হয়।

❌ Wrong: I English learn.

✅ Correct: I learn English.

❌ Wrong: Why you are late?

✅ Correct: Why are you late?

❌ Wrong: Where you live?

✅ Correct: Where do you live?

Basic English Order:
Statement: Subject + Verb + Object
Question: WH word + Auxiliary + Subject + Verb?

Mistake 7: Question Sentence ভুল করা

Question করতে auxiliary verb দরকার। Bengali learners অনেক সময় statement order রেখে question বানায়।

Mistake 8: Negative Sentence ভুল করা

Negative sentence-এ auxiliary + not ব্যবহার করতে হয়। Bengali learners অনেক সময় auxiliary বাদ দেয় বা wrong verb form ব্যবহার করে।

✅ Correct: I do not know. / I don’t know.

❌ Wrong: She does not likes coffee.

Fix Formula:
Present Simple: do/does not + base verb
Past Simple: did not + base verb

Mistake 9: Double Negative ব্যবহার করা

Standard English-এ একটি sentence-এ সাধারণত একটিই negative idea রাখা উচিত।

❌ Wrong: I don’t know nothing.

✅ Correct: I don’t know anything.
✅ Correct: I know nothing.

❌ Wrong: He doesn’t have no money.

✅ Correct: He doesn’t have any money.
✅ Correct: He has no money.

Remember:
don’t + anything
doesn’t + any
nothing হলে don’t/doesn’t দরকার হয় না।

Mistake 10: Pronoun ভুল করা

Pronoun subject, object এবং possessive form অনুযায়ী বদলায়। Bengali learners অনেক সময় he/him/his, she/her, they/them confuse করে।

Mistake 11: Adjective-এর পরে Plural ব্যবহার

English-এ adjective সাধারণত plural হয় না। Noun plural হতে পারে, কিন্তু adjective একই থাকে।

❌ Wrong: She has two reds bags.

✅ Correct: She has two red bags.

❌ Wrong: They are intelligents students.

✅ Correct: They are intelligent students.

Simple Rule:
Adjective same থাকে। Noun plural হতে পারে।
red bag → red bags, not reds bags

Mistake 12: Very এবং Too confuse করা

Very শুধু intensity বাড়ায়। Too সাধারণত negative meaning দেয়, অর্থাৎ “অতিরিক্ত বেশি”।

❌ Wrong: The tea is too good.

✅ Better: The tea is very good.

The tea is too hot to drink.
চা পান করার জন্য অতিরিক্ত গরম।

Very vs Too:
very good = খুব ভালো
too hot = এত গরম যে সমস্যা হচ্ছে

Mistake 13: Capitalization Mistake

English writing-এ sentence শুরু, pronoun I, names, countries, languages, days এবং months capital letter দিয়ে লিখতে হয়।

❌ Wrong: i live in bangladesh and speak english.

✅ Correct: I live in Bangladesh and speak English.

❌ Wrong: we will meet on friday.

✅ Correct: We will meet on Friday.

Remember:
I, English, Bangla, Bangladesh, Dhaka, Friday, January সব capital হবে।

Mistake 14: Punctuation ভুল করা

Punctuation ভুল হলে meaning unclear হয়। Full stop, comma, question mark, apostrophe এবং quotation marks খুব important।

❌ Wrong: Where do you live.

✅ Correct: Where do you live?

❌ Wrong: Rahims book is here.

✅ Correct: Rahim’s book is here.

❌ Wrong: He said, I am ready.

✅ Correct: He said, “I am ready.”

Mistake 15: Spoken English-এ Bangla Translation Style

Bengali learners অনেক সময় Bangla sentence সরাসরি English-এ translate করে। এতে sentence unnatural হয়।

Sentence statement, question, negative নাকি imperative—আগে identify করুন।

Step 2: Subject and Verb Match

Subject singular/plural কি না দেখে verb ঠিক করুন।
